Construction work at the Bayside Apartments development on Worthing seafront is well underway with the formation of the basement now complete and work on the ground floor due for completion soon.
More than 600 tonnes of reinforcing steel have been put into the construction already as Bayside Vista starts to make its way into the Worthing skyline. The concrete structure has now started to rise above the development hoardings which have been in place since December 2017 and it is anticipated that the top floors of the building will be in place by the end of the Summer.
At one of the recent quarterly meetings to provide neighbouring residents with an update on site progress, one of the attendees suggested getting the children from a local school involved to transform the previously blank development hoardings that run along the cycle path on the seafront by providing artwork to add some colour and brighten it up for the local community.
Ben Cheal of local developers Roffey Homes had already been invited to Chesswood Junior School previously to give a talk about the development so the students were aware of Bayside and were given the opportunity of getting involved with the mural artwork project for the hoardings which they enthusiastically accepted.
The students and Head of Art at Chesswood brainstormed ideas for a brief and came back with the idea of ‘Worthing Through the Ages’. They were provided with materials for the project by Roffey Homes and got to work to create a vibrant piece of artwork to inspire the local community.
The final artwork which was installed on the hoardings at the beginning of the year includes Dolphins and Elephants created by Year 3 children, Punch and Judy and the Brooklands Diddy train created by Year 4 children, The Lido, Hospital and Pier made by Year 5 pupils and The Dome and Beach Huts by the children in Year 6. In all, 44 children from across the school took part in creating the bright and informative piece of artwork.
Claire Read, Oak Class Teacher and Head of the Art Team at Chesswood Junior School said: “Chesswood Junior School has always had a very strong affiliation with the local community and were more than happy to take up the challenge of turning an otherwise dark and unattractive walkway into a vibrant piece of art. A combination of Children, Student Teachers, Teachers and Teaching Assistants all worked together to create and design a display of Worthing's history and were delighted to be involved in this project.”
The artwork will be on display throughout the Spring as the development continues to rise up on the historic promenade.
The development of 141 luxury one, two and three bed homes is due for completion at the end of next year with 50% already reserved off-plan. Phase three off-plan sales are now available so if you would like the opportunity to sit down with one of the dedicated Bayside team to find out more about the chance to own a stylish home with direct access to the beach, you can contact the selling agents Michael Jones on 01903 213 281 or Symonds and Reading on 01903 235 623 or email bayside@michaeljones.co.uk to arrange a meeting.
