If you have a long-held dream of relocating from London and living by the sea, we can’t think of a better place to call home than the vibrant seaside town of Worthing.
Imagine getting home from work, unwinding from the stresses of daily life, grabbing your paddle board and heading down to the beach for an early evening paddle. Enjoy an early evening stroll along the promenade, stop to enjoy a sundowner in one of the local beachfront bars followed by a delicious meal of freshly caught seafood at one of the many local eateries. Or sometimes, there’s just nothing quite like grabbing a fish & chips and sitting down on the quiet beach for an impromptu picnic (‘Mr Whippy’ ice-cream optional).
Sound good?
Here are just a few reasons why people are moving out of London and choosing Worthing as their new home town:
1. Beach Life is good for the soul
Studies have shown that living near the sea is calming and can lower your stress levels and help you relax. According to consultant psychiatrist Dr Natalie Bijlani at the Priory's Roehampton Hospital, London, sea air can help you sleep better due to its higher levels of oxygen. Plus, with a vibrant and accessible promenade, there’s no better way to while away a few hours of your day than sipping a latte or lingering over a long lunch as you sit back, relax and let the soothing sounds of the waves rolling in calm you.
2. Wining and Dining
Perfectly located on your doorstep are a wide range of bars and restaurants, each providing their own unique menus and flavours. From family-owned delights such as the Crabshack, recently featured in The Guardian’s ‘10 of Europe’s best beach restaurants’, situated right on the promenade with sweeping sea views and the most delectable freshly-cooked fish to the delicious Woods Burger Kitchen, found in the town centre. Offering freshly cooked American style burgers from locally sourced ingredients, it’s a must for any burger lover – might we recommend trying one of their awesome thick shakes – the ‘Sweet Oreo Of Mine’ is a fan favourite.
3. Music and Culture
Offering the best of international music and performance, Worthing punches well above its weight when it comes to the arts and entertainment. It’s home to an eclectic mix of internationally renowned artists, quirky open studios and galleries, not to mention three theatres and one of the oldest working cinemas in the UK. Worthing can give any cultural centre in the South East a run for its money.
4. Outdoor Living
With direct access to the beach and the South Downs on your doorstep you’d be forgiven for spending a lot of your time exploring the great outdoors. Whether it be trying your hand at one of the many water sports on offer, enjoying a bike ride along one of the coastal paths or taking a ramble across the stunning rolling hills and enjoying the breath-taking scenery of the South Downs National Park, there are plenty of ways to fill your time.
5. Cheaper House Prices
The housing market is strong in Worthing with the average price standing at £322,261 according to Zoopla, compared to the average house price in London of £647,488. With Worthing property prices a lot cheaper than London and neighbouring Brighton and Hove, moving to Worthing will mean you can get much more for your money, have a wider choice of properties and still keep the beach life and outdoor lifestyle that you’re looking for.
6. Location, Location, Location
At under 1 hour 30 minutes the Worthing to London commute is manageable and relatively easy with direct trains to London Victoria and London Bridge providing the perfect mode of transport for work. The attractions of Brighton and Chichester are just a short drive away, else travel slightly further afield and explore the historical sights of Portsmouth Dockyard or enjoy a spot of retail therapy at Gunwharf Quays. Plus, there are an excellent choice of schools in Worthing, with many properties in good school catchment areas.
It comes as no surprise to us that so many people are now moving out of London and its surrounding areas, choosing to swap city living for a more relaxed pace of life. In fact, over 50% of our new residents at Bayside will be relocating and moving to West Sussex, choosing to live in Worthing and enjoy its fantastic ‘al fresco’ lifestyle, convenient location and warm, welcoming community.
If you’re thinking of moving to Worthing and would like to sit down with one of the dedicated Bayside team to find out more about our unrivalled beachfront luxury apartments, please contact the selling agents Michael Jones & Company on 01903 213 281 or Symonds and Reading on 01903 235 623.
